It hurts to see people shadowing the real truth without even being ignorant. I feel this contentment is nothing but an expiation. The atonement of happiness they say is a myth. Deep down inside they know that, but are afraid of their survival in this merciless and callous world where materialism is the order of the day. Let them run for the ‘so called’ indispensable money.

This cresomania is eventually killing the real sensitive emotions and feeling of the the true self. I see my neighbours , my parents, everyone of us running like a wild dog to grab the race from each other and showcase our potential to destroy our real self. Is this the race we are running?? I don’t want to. Some times I feel that we boddle our soul and explain our inefficiency to fulfill the real motives of life. That’s why after days, months, years of chase its is unfulfilling. This is not what life asks for?? This has destroyed our sensitive emotions and feelings.

I don’t want to be part of this chase. I want to explore the darkest, deepest, lonliest corners of the earth because that’s what our instinct is. But what we do – sit in our offices, home all your life trying to beat each other for nothing. Nature invites us in its lap to remain hale and hearty, to explore more and more. It invigorates a soul stirring freshness in us. We should break the shackles of bondage, money, things and form a connection with the nature. W. Macneile Dixononce once said “Nature like life, she strips men of their pretensions and vanities, exposes the weakness of the weak and the folly of the fool” — we should learn to be crusaders for the cause.

It is true, we are but faint-hearted crusaders, even the walkers,
nowadays, who undertake no persevering, never-ending enterprises. Our
expeditions are but tours, and come round again at evening to the old
hearth-side from which we set out. Half the walk is but retracing our
steps. We should go forth on the shortest walk, perchance, in the
spirit of undying adventure, never to return--prepared to send back
our embalmed hearts only as relics to our desolate kingdoms. If you are
ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife
and child and friends, and never see them again--if you have paid your
debts, and made your will, and settled all your affairs, and are a free
man--then you are ready for a walk.

Free Will

Friendship needs no words..

Well this is a blog written by the “THE REMITTANCE MAN” before going into exile for his two lovely friends. While reason for passing such a antagonistic or hostile statement against my country recalls all the events that’s happening in my home state in my own country. Quite worthy of being called ‘shame for the nation’ which proclaims itself to be a liberal secular sovereign democratic country. I am talking about the shameful deeds of KHAP PANCHAYATS in Haryana which find themselves even above the law of the land. In case you don’t know about these khap panchayats then let me remind you I wouldn’t call them more than a group of orthodox conservative sick people who have been killing and making the life of poor miserable in the name of moral policing and justice. They are not less than any Talibans of Afghanistan who made their own laws and killed people in the name of traditions and customs. Which tradition or culture gives its people the license to kill others or socially boycott them just because they married a person from the same ghotra(sub caste) or from the same village. Isn’t that height of injustice prevailing in the society. Where are the law protectors??

Another incidents of killing of dalits have also been seen which is a disgrace to the nation. The so called JAAT community has to be held responsible for this societal and constitutional imbalance they have created. My opinion is that the atrocities on dalits has to be ascribed to the breakdown of Jajmani system in which there existed the traditional interdependence between the landowning families of peasants castes and the landless agricultural labourer families of dalits, after the advent of Green revolution in the 1970’s. Due to mechanization of agriculture and the consequent decrease in the demand for farm labours and also easy availability of cheaper migrant labour, land owning families of Jaats jettison their traditional labourers of dalits. This liberated the Dalits from the bondage of Jaats and they began to exercise their vote in parliamentary and assembly elections in an independent manner instead of remaining captive vote banks of the land owners. This lead to the emergence of conflict between the two caste and which finally showed up in the form of atrocities on schedule castes. This conflict further aggravated due to reservations in the memberships and chairpersonship of Gram Panchayats, Gram Samitis and Zila Parishads.

In last few years so many cases of honour killings have evolved. Over the last five years the Khap Panchayats , in the guise of maintain the honour and pride of the community, has issued most grotesque, barbarous and extremely disturbing diktats. Such Kangaroo Justice cannot be tolerated. Though no doubts these have existed from 600AD in India and there is lack of efficient judicial system in the country but that doesn’t allow them passing such disturbing dikats and commiting henious crimes of honour killings and social boycott. They advocate their judgements saying a girl cannot perform the dual role of daughter and a Bahu in the same village. Well everyone has the right to choose their marriage partners and who are they to point fingers on them. Even if you have objection against these acts , go to courts and get an ennactment in the Hindu Civil code.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 230px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GrS94mpC7rY/S90vfpHRNoI/AAAAAAAAAGA/KN9IIwshyWM/s400/khap+(1).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5466577743356442242" />
Photo showing Region of Influence of Khap Panchayats

No political party has the courage to take up the cases of honour killings and khap diktats. Moreover there is total absence of law enforcement. Its hard to digest that Haryana one of the most progressing state on economic front is witnessing such social degradation. Lets hope the menace of khap panchayats will be eradicated soon. These must be replaced by progressive panchayat bodies which are in tune with the time and ethos of the state. Untill and unless laws accurately define and punish these anachronism Khap panchayats will continue to brew a poisonous cocktail of crime, ignorance and bigotry.

Thanx 4 reading this article
Plz feel free to comment and give any suggestions:):)

Ripudaman Singh
Cheers n Keep Rockin!!!

HOW LONG WILL INDIA BLEED?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 230px; height: 230px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_GrS94mpC7rY/S9Q0TiJIpMI/AAAAAAAAAFo/2NqXLmjpU4M/s400/naxal.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464049758094533826" />
Well back to writing after a long gap and this time around I am starting a series called “INCREDIBLE INDIA” where I would be focusing on all the social evils and practices that are dismantling our country from the right path of progression and growth. Well it has to be started off with NAXALISM because situation is quite grave and the solution requires fundamental changes in the system.

I am a law abiding citizen and I feel sorrow for the state of nation who proclaims to be one of the most developing nations but can’t tackle the ever spreading evil of naxalism posing a threat to its internal security. It’s a slippery slope for sure. Haven’t we seen the effect of such avoidance/ignorance of naxalism in our neighboring state Nepal where Maoist became strong enough to uproot the governance of the country.

Besides the brilliance and brutality of the naxalite ambush sprung in Dantewada on April 6 that accounted for the single biggest one- day loss ever to security forces, the other two images remain in the aftermath of tragedy. Instead of saluting during cremation of CRPF jawans, police officers doing Namaste; and the policemen bunched in single-file patrol in the Dantewada forest. Both these actions demonstrate the civilian mindset of the police where military ethos is the answer.

I could remember the song ‘SAD but TRUE’ from metallica referring correctly to this situation of India’s internal security. It took the US just 46 days to overhaul its internal security system post 9/11. That country has since then not witnessed a single terrorist attack on its soil. In contrast, two years after the high level meeting in Delhi, India witnessed its arguably most daring and horrific carnage comprising over 10 brutal coordinated attacks by Pakistani terrorist which killed 173 and wounded 308 people.

The way 26/11 galvanised counter terrorism, Dantewada will, we hope chivvy counter-insurgency and anti-maoist strategies. Since black Tuesday a torrential downpour of lessons and ideas have flooded policymakers on strategies to cope and confront Maoists people war. At one end is civil society’s Arundhati Roy, calling Maoists Gandhians with guns while on the opposite side is the gun – wielding majority demanding their extermination. The biggest distortion about the Maoist challenge is that it is billed as a law and order problem falling under state jurisdiction when even the blind will acknowledge it is a full blown insurgency beyond the capacity of individual states.

How much more we are going to follow this “tolerance and wait and watch” policy considering the fact that Naxalite presence was confined to 50 districts out of 639 in 2001. By 2009 its geographical scope has expanded to 223 districts across 20 of India’s 28 states. In all, about 40000 sq km of our territory is currently under Naxalite’s sway justifying it being rightly called as ‘RED CORRIDOR”.
The flaws in India’s internal apparatus are considerable and the task is increasingly becoming daunting. India’s internal security problems arise from a combination of factors that include political and administrative mismanagement for which military and police solutions are seen as way out. The army and police at best can suppress or eliminate the terrorists. Common sense dictates that tackling terrorism, insurgency and political grievances is far more complicated and require a wider and deeper strategy which entails ‘employment of all means for the end’. The keyword here is ‘means’ which goes beyond employing military methods alone.

In the meantime the question arise whether we have the required instruments to combat naxalism?

CRPF is the designated force to tackle naxalism but is untrained to fight insurgency which requires combat skills or an infantry soldier. Massive expansion of CRPF to 216 battalions have diluted the quality of the force, raising another question of compromising quality over numbers? I think all the CPO’s have to be geared up and a proper coordination between army and state police force is required for giving a befitting reply to the naxalites.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 249px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GrS94mpC7rY/S9Q0gIt8EsI/AAAAAAAAAFw/Uh_JM8zyIK4/s400/CRPF_19662f.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464049974607876802" />
Our strategic culture, which can be summed up in two oft repeated words –chalta hai and jugaad- is reflected in the way we treat our internal security. Lack of political will is responsible for insurgency dragging on and maoist gaining ascendancy. The prime minster in his second term owes it to the nation. Structures within the system should be made correct and adequate attention should be paid for removing deficiencies, then only it would be possible to address both the amelioration of the concerns of the Maoists and the violence unleashed by them. Remember, Our pontifications on “our rightful place in the world” will never get taken seriously unless we start taking ourselves seriously and change both our mindset and the way we think.

Thanks 4 reading this article. I have come across entire gamut of relationship but last day taught me something more than what we all have experienced. How can an object, jinxed for someone, make your day miserable. Of course it did. No more guesses, its about our special friend Tanmaiy and our charabanc on which we usually ride in the streets and corners of Bangalore. Yeah we got this jeep around one year back and we have some cherisable memories associated with it. Right from its first day, it was the centre of attraction and also a part of some controversies rightaway. Hardly you will find such an auto parked in the campus of a b school for sure. This vehicle displaying the rugged independence had made our life more interesting and fascinating in lot of respects. Students were captivated or perplexed to be more precise with a mere glance of this spacious vehicle. May be this idea of having a open jeep in the campus went beyond their imagination but everyone had enjoyed the sturdy yet adventurous rides in the jeep. Initially people used to get loaded in some real numbers(12) for a spin to infosys market nearby. When the monster is out on the roads, best on the road will give you a glare and you will feel special. Plan was always there to buy a SUV and climate down here boosted our decision and we had to go for it. After then the machine had its low moments too, it kept on standing motionless for a couple of months. But finally we have decided to get it running this time around since I don’t wanna miss a single joyride possible in the last few months of my freedom.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GrS94mpC7rY/SvlO6_eP35I/AAAAAAAAAFg/lZsJoMnhL7M/s400/DSC00298.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5402436003385302930" />

Yesterday was a devils day for sure since after a long and tiring day of push n pull around the jeep and after spending a reasonable amount of moolah, we could not get it running. Instead we had a minor accident on the way back when the speeder Mr Tanmaiy did it again. Yes my friend, on the way back jeep fell into the pit – courtesy Bombay Boy. How can a rider care to miss a 3 * 3 pit and so finally had to gather nearby people and use the power of 2800 cc SUV to get back on road. It was a daunting task. If someone missed the last trauma we went through I must tell you it was a real nightmare when Mumbaikar slammed the jeep right into the truck and we ended in spending atleast 5 hours in the Shoolagiri police station. God save people from such incubus!!!! Well few things are for sure , Tanmaiy would not be seen driving jeep often , I have survived his attempts to kill me (lol) and we don’t give a damn even if he destroy the jeep one day since I believe "True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost."

You might be wondering that I missed the controversies associated with jeep. Well the latest in the kitty is issuing of another notice from our authoritarian administration. This time around they called me and told me to remove the jeep from campus for its misuse for alcohol, drinking n some other objectionable stuff. What will be your reaction to dis???
I was furious and shocked. What else I could do, I refused to accept the letter and completely denied it. Well when the college head is busy accusing you of most paltry activities in the college , you need to carry on and ignore it. Well whatever they say, students love it and they love to chill in this SUV even when it is parked outside the college. I love it and now I wanna go for voyage and explore the nature that surrounds me. Are u coming???

Rips

My Goa Compendium

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GrS94mpC7rY/SvQFi9gJytI/AAAAAAAAAFI/nhi65UBY3KE/s320/goa1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400947951307180754" />

Well I was never in two minds about writing this entry since the jaunt to goa was unforgettable and amusing. This trip didn’t started with any fracas or argument with my parents but was a premeditated and a contrived one. Goa has always been close to my hearts for its festive mood and high spirited people;) Though no one had shared great rapport with each other before this voyage but eventually everyone formed a bond with each one and had special place for each other and feeling of philia was developed. Another exciting aspect about the excursion was the encounter of some amusing and funny people(Jamie the Wolf, oooooo) in concourse of events in Goa which completely entraced each one of us. Beauty of a place like Goa entices everyone around it.
Talking candidly about the people in Goa,well definitely I have to start with no one else but Scandy, its been a long time since I met such an interesting and jovial personality. Impressed by her would be an overstatement but even uninfluenced would be an understatement. Best part of her was being flashy and dashy yet elegant and dignified.Initially a bit reluctant but eventually ended up in enjoyin the rides and of course who could forget the peppy bollywood songs!!!

Sneha was funny in her own moves and even me and Dhanda gelled well with her, may be being from same region. Sneha marked the trip with an unfortunate accident which not many will forget especially Ajay. (Sneha NEVER TRY ACTIVA again..lol).

Time spent with Neha was memorable and I could really spot some of her personality trait never known before. Well have to say she is gem of a person with adorable managing and social skills.

Adyasha was enjoyin her time there and usually we had some unfinished conversations which were brought to end with either of us loosin out to the high spirits. But her taste of music was appreciable. For Chinki I think this blog would not be sufficient. May be I need some more space for detailed description of her activities. May be Sudeep n Tanmaiy could help me out in this:():)

Nilofer ka to bas pooch mat yaar. She was funny in high spirits. My moves always kept her laughin. Well Sudeep and Alok could definitely explain the tyrannies of that evening when the bike was misplaced. Sudeep had a rockin evening that day with his Tour de Goa experience was definitely worth a ride with a sizzling pillion company. Sudeep laughter was the talk of the town coz he never stopped it and filled the milieu with joy and fun.

Alok was nice company in the trip and we definitely shared some great moments especially the evening at “sunny side up” was memorable with both of us gazing at the stars and playing around with imaginations.
The night me, Ajay n Scandy were sittin outside fiesta can’t be described in words with either of us hardly getting what each one was saying but yet we gave company to each other for a long time sitting idle and mockin boozers coming out of Mambo. Lalit, Dhanda , me n Tanmaiy had a good time sharing the same room. All of us had their high moments. Ivy incident has not to be mentioned.

Bacchanalia was the trademark of time spent on the most pretty coastline in the country and we all were going along the brouhaha of the environment in Goa.
Time fly by there and the world goes upside down in a few minutes, well I thinks that’s the beauty of this place here as you don’t have to assimilate the thoughts of responsibilities of the order of the day. Everything’s so relaxed in here and randomness decides the day’s fate. I think that Goa is the best place to vegetate after the hectic schedule of studies but feasibility of the visit here looks bleak.I can't forget this odyssey...Goa is calling us???

BOB

SHINDIG TO BRAWL

What was thought would be a memorable celebrated day in the life of the students of the SIBM Bangalore turned out to be most ill-fated and ill-starred day ever since the inception of college in Bangalore. Date was 11 july and the occasion was the freshers party hosted by the senior batch for the ones all set to the enter the new domain of their life. Being a member of ECC, have to mention that the party was nicely organized ( not being biased- it really was!!!) but the seeds of hostility that were sown between the batches by the bossy leadership finally got matured enough to fracture the bacchanalia which brought smile on everyone face though for a small time. The festive mood had made everyone gleeful and everyone was dancing on air. It could not have been better for the couples as they got to spend some quality time with each other. Pool side arrangements were creating the desired buzz required for such a bash. Muzic and food were the delights of the evening at Radha Regent and it was the place to be for all fun frenzy people. Every thing was in place except the tempers which flared out becoz of negligible sort of interactions that had taken place so far between the batches. Frankly speaking it was like two assemblage of people sharing the same space and same college name but different emotions. It could be right said as the day of aggressive and offensive behaviour.

Closely watching the brawl right throughout another thing that striked me along with many people was the display of unity that was shown by the seniors which was never expected. I am not trying to justify violence but there are days when tempers get flared and entire gamut of emotions get aroused and it gave us a bleak of hope that such could also be the bonding between the entire group of students in the college which is quite required between the first two batches of the college.

Bygones are Bygones, its my wish that no one keeps any hard feeling for anyone. There should be more interaction that should be allowed between the batches and let the college atmosphere be more friendlier that before so that these two years of unforgettable events could never be erased from the memories. Blame game should not be played. Since it was the party for all, let every one take the responsibility for what happened. Administration needs to understand that nice friendly milieu is required to convert this place into the birthplace of consummate corporate czars.

GROW UP INDIA!!! Right from the morning started pouring in the screamers on the news channels about the riots that started in few district of Punjab and parts of Haryana because of Vienna incident where head of Dera Sach Khand, Sant Ram Nand was shot at in an assault by members of a rival group.

Its very sad that people who claim themselves as supporters of Dera Sach Khand had no idea why they were destroying the public property. I mean what will be result of this arson which has started here and where is this heading towards? Analyst are saying this violence could have its roots in community conflict between Jat Sikhs and Dalit Sikhs. I think that would be like politicizing the topic beyond extent.

I personally feel the urban poverty in cities of Punjab could be the fundamental reason for such heinous acts. People are too free to indulge in these riots because after 62 years of independence still there is a fight for employment, basic amenities and still the majority of people are under the below poverty line.

I was completely depressed by the role of media. Instead of helping the administration in coping up with the situation, they were showing footages of police charging at the peole to dispel the mob which in turn will instigate more people towards such incendiarism. I mean what you expect the police to do in such situation and this is one of the reason for police inefficiency. And when they fail, call Army – the only plausible option left. Its high time for media to be responsible and the administration should take all the possible steps to bring the situation under control.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://limpid-journal.blogspot.com/2009/05/grow-up-india-stop-this-arson.html' title='GROW UP INDIA!!! It was always a risk to ditch the BJP and take on the Congress. He took the risk and succeeded handsomely. Proving political analysts and his critics wrong, he scored a hat-trick in the Orissa Assembly elections. Congress Chief Ministers have won election for three times in a row but, possibly, no opposition Chief Minister has performed the feat. Leading his regional party — Biju Janata Dal— Naveen has done it . He emerged as the main anti-Congress pole in Orissa and also contained the threat of the BJP.

Ten years back when Naveen Panaik became Orissa’s Chief Minister, he was new to politics, considered immature and suffered from a handicap; he could not converse in Oriya. But he picked up the ropes fast, matured politically and proved smarter than the BJP leaders, his ally for the last 11 years. He dropped a bombshell when an emissary of L.K. Advani met him in March and was tersely told that BJD could not offer more than 31 Assembly and five Lok Sabha seats to the BJP.

Naveen did not lose his composure even for a moment while telling Advani’s emissary that the alliance with the BJP was over. The BJP leaders, who thought Naveen to be their most dependable ally, were shocked and changed their tunes, calling him a “serial killer” and “betrayer”. The BJP’s harsh words notwithstanding, there is a grudging admiration for the BJD Chief in the BJP circles. He is seen as a smarter politician compared with much senior ones in the BJP. More important, people see him as a clean politician, who is striving to end corruption.

What brought the BJD and the BJP together in 1998 was their common enemy, the Congress. But in an alliance one party grows at the cost of the other. The BJP was never comfortable with a situation that demanded that it permanently remain a junior partner. It was a matter of time before the opportunistic alliance ended in divorce and it did.

Naveen has aristocratic upbringing and his pursuit since he graduated from the Delhi University has been history and literature. He also evinced keen interest in Ayurveda and wrote a well researched book on the healing properties of various plants grown in the sub-continent. Having been brought up and educated in Delhi and sojourned in the United States for years, Naveen hardly looks an Oriya in conversation or appearance. His performance as the Union Minister for Steel had been better than many of his colleagues. He created a record having won three successive Lok Sabha elections.

His illustrious father, Biju Patnaik, had a domineering personality and strode the political scene like a colossal but Naveen is timid and remained a bachelor. His elder brother is an industrialist and the sister, Gita Mehta, a well known writer. Naveen, like his sister, has a literary bent. Among his many friends abroad was Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and in India they included erstwhile Rajas and Maharajas.
Jacqueline was Editor of A Second Paradise, written by Naveen, depicting the courtly life in India from 1590 to 1947. The book was, apparently, produced to mark the Festival of India in Washington in 1985 and to coincide with Rajiv Gandhi’s visit to the US.

The Patnaiks were quite close to the Nehru-Gandhi family. Biju was a friend of Indira Gandhi though they later moved apart politically. Naveen was a friend of both Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi. Mrs Gandhi would send her two sons to Biju’s house to keep company with Naveen who later moved to the Doon School.

Naveen’s another book, The Garden of Life, is on an altogether different subject. It deals with the healing plants in India used for preparation of Ayurvedic medicines. How Naveen got interested in herbs, having medicinal value, is shrouded in mystery.

WAKE UP CALL - My election compendium

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GrS94mpC7rY/ShhRNKjAOHI/AAAAAAAAADw/wv4Wz6hvHLE/s320/narendramodi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339106644859041906" />

My last few days were almost similar to most politicians as they and me both were entagled in understanding the intricacies involved around the uncertainity in politics. But finally India is able to feel a sense of stability. Definitely the expectations are on a high but this is something which Manmohan Singh has been facing right from the beginning when he took the charge in 2004. Since continuing the legacy of excellent work done by our great prime minister A.B. Vajpayee was a big encumbrance on his shoulder but trust me, not many men would have been able to uphold the responsibility with such grace and steadfastness. Surely somehow I am getting into the books these days having finished three books in almost same amount of time but this explicate my curiosity and anxiety for Hindu Nationalism. Yes, I am talking about that face of the history which has been deliberately tried to be wiped out, reason being what I call as Congresswaad in our country that has prevailed for a long time.

Well not talking about the past, even the future looks dismay. There is no structured forum where people of broadly similar views and concerns can state their views bluntly about BJP. The BJP certainly offers no platform for free and frank discussion--the National Executive meetings have become an occasion for leaders to deliver speeches. I have not censored anything, including the uncharitable comments on leaders, in the belief that BJP functionaries should gauge what the party's supporters truly feel.
I do recognize that a dialogue on internet conducted in English (and also involving non-residents whose concerns and perspectives are a little distant) is a very limited exercise. Still, it is a modest start.
I want to emphasize the importance of a candid discussion in the light of the BJP's reluctance to dissect the debacle. Having re-anointed Advani as Leader of Opposition, the party leadership has retreated into a shell.

DIVIDED OPINION

It is clear from the responses that there is a sharp division on many counts:

• Some people say Hindutva is the soul of the party and without Hindutva the BJP becomes another Congress. Others feel that aggressive Hindutva is the road to political oblivion.
• Modi, as usual, evokes controversy. He is somehow associated with hard Hindutva. Those who feel that the BJP should become more centrist feel that Modi isn't nationally acceptable. The pro-Hindutva lot think ideology overrides the importance of individuals.

POINTS OF AGREEMENT

There are three main areas of agreement:
• The BJP must seriously take up work in states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra and West Bengal where its presence is nominal.
• There is implicit agreement of the fact that the BJP will have to fight its battles alone, without the benefit of alliances.
• There is agreement that the media, particularly the English-language media, is viscerally hostile. Most of those who commented felt that alternative media space should be probed.

MY CONCLUSIONS

• I think that strident Hindutva of the early-1990s variety is looked upon with disfavour by large sections of the population. The BJP must take steps to distance itself from extremist elements. Most important, it must be seen to be doing so.

• Development is the main concern of people. The BJP governments have a good track record of development but it is weak in the articulation of economic issues. But economics has to be the priority in the coming years. The BJP has to be totally focused on economic issues.

• The BJP must champion social reform, particularly women empowerment.

• What will distinguish the BJP from the Congress is an uncompromising adherence to ethical politics. Unfortunately, this is one area where the party has faltered. The Congress has stolen a march by inducting bright, young, idealistic people. This has helped it overcome the complications of dynasty.

• The RSS is increasingly being regarded as an impediment to change in the BJP. It is replacing its old moral leadership with organisational control.

• The party leadership looks and appears tired. The present leadership lacks combativeness. Modi, despite his flaws, is the only leader with energy and an inspirational quotient. I believe that pressure from below will catapult Modi to the national leadership.

• Modi must project himself as an aggressive moderniser. He must take care to shed frivolity and acquire more gravitas.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 260px; height: 277px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GrS94mpC7rY/ShhRsnkaHeI/AAAAAAAAAD4/RRmD01joUB4/s400/advani.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339107185225506274" />
We have just about begun the process of discussion. Stating the reason for this would be hard for me because usually these affrays are pointless and issueless, but most of them ending in me being provoked after my parents tease me to teach me a lesson for my academic blunders in the past. The end results is oftenly the same as I sequestered myself in my room and started thinking about my fault to stay at home even though I could have remained in Delhi and continued our bacchanalia in Delhi University. In between the quest for peace that was going in my mind , an idea strucked my mind and next morning to the disliking of my parents I was out of the home flowing away from the world of misery(my home) on my vehicle. Soon after my departure I picked up my friend (Vikas Dhanda) from Panipat ( the historical town).

We started planning for a trip to some hill station as mountains are the best place to vegetate after the mental strain I was feeling at home. Plan was to pick our friend Ashish from Delhi and drive away to panoramic view of lushing mountains. We started at night around <st1:time minute="0" hour="22">10 pm</st1:time> from Delhi and as usual Ashish who is one of the best and tireless driver I have ever come across was the speeder of our Maruti Swift. I was sitting at the back so enjoyed sleep during the night and after about 300 km we reached Nainital but plan suddenly changed and we headed towards Almora which is another 50 kms from Nainital. Believe me it was the most captivating view I have ever seen in my life. The valleys were ravishing and we were quite quite enticed by them. We all being very adventurous were delighted to find a forest nearby named Binsar forest.

Binsar is a part of Corbett National park but separted from it. We completed the circuit of Binsar reserve but could not find much of wild life since most of the part of reserve was under scourge of fire. Desperate for a glimpse of wildlife animals particularly Tiger, we finally decided to get out of the car and start an unarmed and unprepared expedition into the forest open area. Riskiness of such a so called stroll was being hedged by the delight we were about to get after a glimpse of a tiger but such a thing never happened and we went back.

After Almora we headed towards Ranikhet which is an army base and quite popular due to the liplock of Aamir and Karishma in Raja Hindustani. You can find a beautiful and well maintained Golf course and War Museum in there which is worth a see. By afternoon we headed towards Nainital to see the speciality of the renowned hill stations of north i.e the mall road where you can always find tempting and attractive girls. We enjoyed the sunset at mall road and had a voracious dinner since we were quite hungry. Finally next day we moved from Nainital and went to Corbett park and enjoyed the wild safari. We also traveled to Sitavani, a forest area and a temple of Sitaji. We could see some wildlife along the way. Finally after 2 days of eventful journey and relaxation we cruised back home since Ashish had to go back to work. I also returned home and now spending some quality time with my family.

Can AfPak policy stop Talibanisation?

It was only recently that President Obama’s emerging Afghanistan-Pakistan (AfPak) policy was based on the assumption that the key to solving the Afghanistan problem was a stable and cooperative Pakistan. It is a measure of the rapidly changing dynamics of this region that overnight it has become Pakistan that is the primary focus of both US and international concern. Predictions of it becoming a failed state are no more in the realm of speculative exercises.
The situation is quite perilous. In February, the Pakistan government struck a peace deal with the Taliban, acceding to the latter’s demand for the imposition of Sharia throughout the Malakand agency that includes both Swat and Buner.

Emboldened, the Taliban declared their intention to enforce Sharia in the whole of Pakistan claiming that Western-type democracy was alien to the Islamic way of life.The Taliban then occupied the district of Buner, a mere hundred kilometres from Islamabad. This set the alarm bells ringing in Washington.

Strong statements emerged from Washington. Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, talked of events moving closer to the tipping point of a militant takeover of Pakistan.

General Patraeus told administration officials that Pakistan had run out of excuses and the next two weeks would determine whether it would survive. The White House asked the Pakistan and Afghanistan Presidents to be in Washington for a trilateral summit with US President.

This sustained diplomatic pressure and the approaching summit had the desired effect and the Pakistan military which thus far had been a mute spectator sprung into action. Their operations were perfectly timed to soften the reception that the Pakistan President and his party, including the ISI chief, would receive in Washington.

Then, on the eve of the summit, came the news of a major offensive launched by the Pakistan Army inflicting heavy casualties on the Taliban. Pakistan was repeating what it does best — running with the hare and hunting with the hound!

Within two days, the mood in Washington had softened and the strong statements verging on panic moderated. With the Presidents of Afghanistan and Pakistan by his side, the US President declared, “We meet today as three sovereign nations joined by a common goal: to disrupt, dismantle and defeat Al-Qaeda and its extremist allies in Pakistan and Afghanistan and to prevent their ability to operate in either country in the future.”

I am completely surprised as this statement emphasised terrorist activities only within these three nations. I have also felt that the US has always been somewhat ambivalent about expanding the definition of its war on terror to include Pakistani-abetted terrorism against India since it desperately needs Pakistan for its war in Afghanistan.

Clearly, President Zardari and the Pakistan Army had played their parts in this charade well. Pakistan was rewarded with good words and a cheque for $400 million.What smart fellows they are! They will even beat Shakuni Mama(Mahabharat) in the astuteness.

Where does this leave India? Judging by the tranquillity being displayed by the Indian security establishment amidst some of the most ominous security developments in the region, one can only conclude that the Indian foreign policy and security establishments are still basking in the glory of the Indo-US civilian nuclear cooperation deal and the anticipated strategic embrace that would propel India into world power status!

We are now faced with stark choices. A Talibanised or failed Pakistan is not in our security interests. Yet this is a possibility and in an environment where even friends and allies are putting their national interests first, we cannot be doing otherwise.

Describing India’s response to the Mumbai terrorist attacks as remarkable, Mrs Hillary Clinton told the House panel that both the Obama and Bush administrations had worked hard to prevent India from reacting to the Mumbai attacks and predicted that the perpetrators would not cease their attacks, in India, because they were looking precisely for the reaction that the US wished to prevent.

Clearly, the message to the soft Indian establishment is that while there may be more attacks, India must be patient and not provoke Pakistan, because that would hurt US and Western interests in Afghanistan and Pakistan. As far as the US and its allies are concerned, terrorism in Kashmir and the rest of India is a byproduct of India-Pakistan relations, and solutions lie in improving them. In short, the West’s war on terror is different from that of India.

Taking a cue, it is time for India to jettison the mindset that others will help propel it to great power status. It must make its resolve clearly known that its status will come from its inner strength and that it has the will to safeguard its sovereignty.

STABILITY IS PEOPLE'S VERDICT

The high decibel babel of Indian elections is over. Finally the electorate of biggest democracy has given its mandate in the form of stunning win for UPA alliance. It is all set to cross the magical mark of 272 to form the next ' STABLE' government, I repeat stable government. The reason I emphasised on 'stable' was the lessons this elections have teached the political bigwigs of the country that we dont want windbag politicians in our country, we want persons who can do some substantial work for the people and take country to the next level of development. Its a common feeling among masses that success defined by commitment to act will launch India into the next superpower orbit

Once again poll pundits, exit polls and arm chair analysist have been proved wrong by the mandate of the people. Some people are saying that this is the unpredictable side of Indian electorate which have proved wrong the notions of hung parliament prior to 15th Lok sabha elections but I feel Indian electorate has become more smarter and more mature which can be proved by the verdict clearly stating a stable government at the centre. What I could infer is that the verdict is influenced by three major factors:

1. National Issues are very important and cannot be neglected.
2. Power of Youth has to be counted upon and the next line of leadership should be present in the party willing to succeed.(Rahul Gandhi's factor which remarks the ressurgence of Congress in Uttar Pradesh by increasing its tally to 21 from 9)
3. Regional factors and good governance at state level also contribute largely to success.(Nitish Kumar, Sheila Dikhshit, Narendra Modi showing exemplifying success in their respective regions)
And the most important thing is to keep up to the promises made to the people.

I think these elections have completely shunned Communalism and Casteism that why parties like BSP have flunked in the all important exam of elections getting only 20 odd seats in the political Kurukshetra of Uttar Pradesh.
Another think worth mentioning is the targeting of PM Manmohan Singh as a weak prime minister completely backfired for NDA and even Mr Advani's demand for presidential style debate could not prevent him from sitting in the opposition. I feel that in the course of about 20 years from being the finance minister to the leader of the ruling party, he has changed from being a technocrat to a consummate neta. The transition was evident from the stand he took during the Indo-US nuclear deal but still calling him an astute politician will be far fetched. Well anyways the Singh has once again become the King and is going to rule for next five years.

But this verdict also inflict more responsibilities on the Government. Caught in the Vortex of a global slowdown that has derailed growth and terrorism in the neighbourhood, India no longer has the luxury of navel gazing. The exigency is the fallout of wasted years. I have always felt that two sentiments are prevailing in larger parts of the world i.e anti - americanism and islamophobia but thankfully none of them has still affected this hub in south east Asia which has second largest numbers of muslims in the world and this has been completely supported by the verdict of the people.
India is no longer just any Third World economy, it is a trillion - dollar entity getting notice at global high tables. An inadequate response, inability to decouple national interest from party politics and sloth may just stall its migration to First World. For too long, national interest has been subservient to political interest. Circumstance preludes hierarchy of choice. India must define and act in National interest and must respect the people's verdict because dont't forget...Democracy is for the people, by the people and of the people.
